Albert H. "Bert" Matlock was born on June 2, 1956, to Albert H. Sr. and Doris L. Quince in Birmingham, Al. He was baptized into God's Family on July 16, 1956. He grew up in Cocoa Beach, Fl and graduated from Cocoa Beach High School in 1974.
Upon his graduation he enlisted in the United States Army as a chaplain assistant.
After his tour of service in the army he was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. In 1979 he returned to Florida and became a member of the Florida Highway Patrol. He served in the ranks as a Trooper, Sergeant, and Lieutenant in the aviation section. He retired in May 2005 with the rank of Captain, but remained in the Florida Highway Patrol Reserves until 2011.
Bert began his theological studies with the Concordia House of Studies at the district level in 2003. He served at Hope Lutheran Church, Pompano Beach as a pastoral assistant, deacon and his first year of vicarage.
